Windmill/Water Spout

Principle of Science: Alternative Energy

The design of this exhibit for the most part consists of a simple windmill as well as decorative propeller elements. Wind is created through the heating of air masses by the sun and the upward movement of warm air mass causing colder air (i.e., wind) to rush in and take its place. The wind turbine’s shaft operates a water pump. Notice the small tail on the fan, which keeps it oriented to the wind. Wind energy is one of the most efficient forms of alternative energy.
