Wave Machine

Principles of Science: Transverse Waves, Wave Properties

Turn a wheel and create waves! Somewhat like a long, flexible ladder fixed in position at its ends, the Wave Machine reacts by forming giant waves that run up and down its length. Varying the timing and the force on the lever varies the properties of the wave.

Turn the wheel rapidly to create short, high frequency waves; move the wheel slowly and long, low frequency waves will result. The more force applied to the wheel, the greater the amplitude, or height, of the waves.
